Alice in Wonderland Review

Alice in Wonderland Movie ReviewThe premiere of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland took place in London on February 25th:

And now, the first movie reviews of Alice in Wonderland are showing up online:

A curiously conventional journey to Wonderland
"You're mad, bonkers... but I'll tell you a secret – all the best people are." This line early on in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland expresses perfectly what seems to be the director's guiding philosophy. The only problem is that his Hollywood paymasters aren't quite as subversive as he is. The result here is a wildly inventive film straitjacketed in conventional narrative form.
The Independent (here)
Never have toves been so slithy or a film so brillig. Tim Burton’s spectacular reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, which had its royal premiere in London last night, takes Lewis Carroll’s famous Jabberwocky poem and makes it a 3-D epic for the next generation.
Traditionalists may quibble with Burton’s Gothic ride through the Alice books, but his hallucinogenic humour is true to the originals. Plus you don’t get a cast any better than this.
TimesOnline (here)

the filmmaker's trademark winsomely outlandish style doesn't prepare you for the thoroughly enjoyable spectacle that is his "Alice in Wonderland."
A fantastical romp that proves every bit as transporting as that movie about the blue people of Pandora, his "Alice" is more than just a gorgeous 3D sight to behold.

Wired (here)

Sounds like Tim Burton did get the recipe right: a perfect combination of plot and 3D special effects. The movie's aesthetic is amazing, but it's still a plot-driven movie. Definitely sign me up for the movie Alice in Wonderland!

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway, respectively as Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen and the White Queen. The official release date is set for March 5, 2010.

Alice in Wonderland Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Alice in WonderlandHere's a new behind the scenes featurette of Alice in Wonderland. It focuses on Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter:

Alice in Wonderland - The Mad Hatter
Johnny Depp talks about playing the Mad Hatter.

I play the Mad hatter. He's mad, he's unpredictable. You see instantly what he's feeling: his emotions are very close to the surface. He's a fascinating character!
Actor Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is a marvelous actor, no doubt about that, and his interpretation of the Mad Hatter is going to be damn awesome.

Alice in Wonderland 3D directed by Tim Burton

Director Tim Burton is working on new Alice in Wonderland movie which will be released in 3D. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is based on the Lewis Carroll novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The role of Alice is portrayed by Mia Wasikowska. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway are also onboard, respectively as the Mad Hatter, the evil Red Queen, and the White Queen.

The movie Alice in Wonderland 3D is set for a release in March 2010.

Here below a first look at Mia Wasikowska as Alice in the movie Alice in Wonderland 3D:

Mia Wasikowska - Alice in Wonderland
Plot:
"Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember."

Judging from the premise above we may consider this Alice in Wonderland movie as a sequel to Disney's animated movie from 1951. He a clip of Disney's movie:

Below a few words from Tim Burton about his take on Alice in Wonderland:

""it's kind of a mixture of some distorted live action and animation. I can't relate it to anything because I'm not sure what to relate it to. It's kind of new territory for me...""
Director Tim Burton

Indeed, besides being in 3D, the movie Alice in Wonderland is combining live action, motion capture technology and stop motion, so it promises to deliver a marvelous experience!
